Fin Ch WALLABY'S XEER WI-IJAL

Introduction
Almost six years old Malcolm is a triple champion (show, racing, lure coursing), multiple winner of races and lure coursing and the European Champion 2006 in track racing. Three years old Alice is Fin Ch and has so far gained three challenge certificates in track racing. Both Malcolm and Alice are of an average size, represent a moderate unexaggerated saluki type and they have well muscled bodies. Malcolm, Alice and Alice’s father Fin Ch Tasia Eminence from England are owned by kennel Zarabis.

Behaviour
Malcolm is the friendly, enthusiastic and intelligent leader of our salukis and knows well the rules of group behaviour of human and salukis. Alice is very alert, devoted to her owner and sure of her self, but keeps distance to strangers and bigger groups of salukis.

Inbreeding
The inbreeding of the litter will be very low and the variety of genes very high. Inbreeding-% of 8 generations is 1,9% and for 16 generations 14,1 %. Four generations behind Alice we will find desert bred saluki Boncuk from Turkey with an unknown pedigree. The total number of unique ancestor behind Malcolm and Alice is very high, within 8 generations at least 327 and within 16 generations at least 1267 separate salukis. The typical levels in Finland are about 200 and 800 and even lower amount of unique ancestors is possible. Typical excellent working salukis are often of outcross combinations, but there are of course exceptions.

Colours
Salukis are a breed of many colours. Based on the knowledge of Malcolm’s two previous litters and the litter mates of Alice we may predict the colours of their litter. Malcolm’s phenotype is red with black fringes with Irish white spotting and ticking. Malcolm has in his genotype at least chinchilla dilution of red, deep red colour and black mask (nose). Alice’s phenotype is cream. Alice has in her genotype at least recessive yellow (dilution of black) and black & tan. There seems to be very little white in the offspring of Alice’s father. The most probable outcome is then 50% fawn with black fringes and 50% black & tan with very little white. If Alice has inherited the recessive deep red intensifier from his father, deep red colour with black “Mickey Mouse” mask, or even with black nose, is possible. Alice has in her mother’s family dominant full black, blue and liver salukis and her father has produced grizzles. Alice may even carry chinchilla dilution. If Malcolm’s genotype also includes the recessive yellow like his very red sister has, grizzle coming further back in the line, the list of possible colours is very long, dominant black and golden on top of the list.
